The International Energy Agency held a high-level meeting at its Paris headquarters on the 20th, calling on all parties to implement the important energy commitments made at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and strive to achieve global temperature control goals.

In December last year, COP28 reached the "UAE Consensus" on a number of topics including the first global stocktake of the Paris Agreement, mitigation, adaptation, finance, loss and damage, and just transition. The consensus sets global goals for 2030. That is to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels, triple the installed capacity of renewable energy, double energy efficiency and significantly reduce methane emissions.

Fatih Birol, Director of the International Energy Agency, pointed out that the "UAE Consensus" clarifies the direction of the global energy industry and is of great significance to the global clean energy transformation. However, implementing the consensus requires a lot of hard work, as well as ongoing analysis of progress and means to achieve these goals. The International Energy Agency is willing to work with countries to turn vision into reality.

Birol said that the International Energy Agency will take a number of measures to promote the implementation of relevant commitments of all parties at COP28; assist all parties to develop solutions and provide more funds for the clean energy transition.
